Ramadan: Sarumi Aliyu Preaches Tolerance

Mrs. Bolanle Sarumi-Aliyu, convener of the BASA Foundation, has urged Muslims across Oyo State to use the holy month of Ramadan to further imbibe the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) and also use the period to make atonement and seek nearness to the Almighty Allah through their abstinence from sin. She also urged Muslims to avoid evil thoughts and cursing in the holy month and beyond.
She stated that “denying ourselves of food and drinks is to enable us evaluate ourselves and gain control over our physical bodies”, which she said should help our meditation and supplication to the Almighty Allah.
“As Muslims, we must ensure that we stay true to the five pillars of Islam. As we pray and fast, we must not forget works of charity”, she said. While noting that “one of the purposes of fasting is to make us sober”, Sarumi-Aliyu pointed out that “we must not betray the teachings of Islam by going back to the wrong things we abstained from after the fast”.
In her call for tolerance, Sarumi-Aliyu, who was a candidate in the 2019 governorship election in Oyo State, called on Muslims and non-Muslims to “look beyond themselves and learn to tolerate, love and respect others. We should try as much as we can to help the needy around us and make Oyo State a better place”.
