Ekiti State Government has placed Mr Sola Durodola, Coordinator of Anti-Grazing on indefinite suspension.
Though no reason was given for the suspension as of the time of filing the report, the letter of suspension dated, May 13th, 2019 and signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr Biodun Oyebanji, directed Mr Durodola to hand over all government properties in his custody to the Director of Anti –Grazing.
The Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Olayinka Oyebode confirmed that the suspension is with immediate effect.
The state inaugurated anti-grazing marshals last month and vested them with powers to enforce compliance to the law that regulates grazing within the hours permitted by law and restrict herders’ movement. The move was to forestall the destruction of farmlands within the state by herders who sometimes led their cattle into people’s farms.
About a week after the inauguration however, two people were killed and three wounded by people believed to be herdsmen in Iyemero Ekiti in Ikole Local Government area. Two of the suspects were later apprehended by hunters backed up by a military joint patrol.
