Idi Arere Mayhem: Makinde Tackles Ajimobi on Security

The Peoples Democratic  Party gubernatorial candidate in Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde has urged the governor of Oyo State, Senator Abiola Ajimobi to stop the persistent area boys clashes which often lead to destruction of lives and properties.

He made this known in a release signed by Prince Dotun Oyelade while reacting to avoidable mayhem in recent times particularly those that occurred in both Oja’gbo and Idi Arere areas of Ibadan Northeast and Ibadan South East recently.

He said “it is so sad that despite the huge amount of money claimed to have been spent by the government in the last eight years and the recent levies on security, the government has not been able to tame the bloodletting occasioned by area boys’ clashes which has characterized this regime especially in the last few years”.

While commiserating with the people who have been injured or lost their valuables, Engr. Makinde urged them to remain calm.

He appealed to the people of Ibadan, particularly the affected local governments who have been living in fear and anxiety to take solace in the fact that a new dawn is close by when such occurrence will be tackled proactively.

The Anchor Online’s findings revealed that no fewer than 30 shops were burnt by suspected arsonists in the early hours of Sunday in the Idi Arere axis.

Interestingly, Idi Arere was the venue of the inauguration of the relaunched Joint Security Task Force, code-named ‘Operation Burst’ in August 2017. The government also recently installed CCTV cameras at strategic locations to boost the security of Ibadan.

The police, on Sunday confirmed the arrest of 11 suspects in connection with the crime.
