The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in Oyo State, Engineer Seyi Makinde has appealed to the leadership of the the All Progressives Congress to explain to their members, who the PDP described as “over-enthusiastic”, the need for a peaceful and violence-free electioneering campaign.
In a release signed by Prince Dotun Oyelade, from the candidate’s campaign organisation, Engr. Makinde said “it is becoming rampant for APC members to vandalize posters and billboards belonging to the PDP.
“The latest development over the weekend where PDP members were attacked and two of them sustained injuries occasioned by gunshots by APC faithful last Sunday at Oke Odo, Ward 10, an area in Ibadan South East Local Government of Oyo State is absolutely unacceptable and we are asking all security agencies as well as INEC to impress it upon them that intimidation and violent attacks will not win this election”, the statement said.
Makinde challenged his counterparts in other parties, particularly Mr. Bayo Adelabu to begin to harp on peace as he, Makinde has been doing from the beginning.
The PDP candidate assured the people that no one will be allowed to deploy violence or rigging to frustrate the popular wish of the people in the forthcoming general elections.
